Weed gets a lot of hype from all angles. Some people think its’ some sort of devil plant sent here to plague humanity. Others see it as a miracle plant capable of curing every ailment and fixing every problem. Regardless where you stand on the question, there are definitely a lot of good reasons to smoke weed. Here are 24 of the best reasons why you should be smoking more weed.
Though politicians wouldn’t admit, artists and musicians have linked their creative brilliance to weed. For many people, the relaxed, less inhibited mental state weed provides lets them tap into new levels of unfettered creativity.
The only challenge when it comes to researching this is that creativity is a difficult thing to measure concretely.
But what we do know is that many of the cannabinoids found in cannabis interact with and stimulate different parts of the brain. This increases the flow of certain hormones and triggers increased activity.
Marijuana can help you sleep better in two important ways.
The first is that it helps people fall asleep. This makes weed a good treatment for insomnia.

Some of them are in charge of signaling to your body when you’re hungry and when you’re full. When these neurotransmitters interact with THC, they basically get tricked into thinking you’re always hungry.

But in the past few decades, lots of anecdotes have been cropping up which suggest that marijuana might have much more beneficial, actual medical uses. Showing off the medical benefits of cannabis, here are seven examples of marijuana medicine in action that should make even the most hardened skeptics pause.Medical marijuana actually has some health benefits. Naysayers may scoff at this notion, but medicinal marijuana actually helps people more so than traditional drugs. What are health benefits of marijuana? Surprising, right? Isn’t ganja supposed to give you the munchies and make you overeat? Quite the contrary. The National Center of Biotechnology compared a variety of studies and found that smoking reefer is not directly connected to calorie intake. Cannabis users actually have a lower body mass index and smaller waistlines, suggesting that weed can actually help regulate appetite and calorie intake in most individuals.
Research in recent years has shown an amazing connection between marijuana and seizure activity. The Epilepsy Foundation chronicled in early 2017 that medical herb can help control seizures. This is especially good news for controlling more difficult cases such as Dravet syndrome in children and Lennox-Gastaut syndrome in both kids and adults.
This debilitating syndrome can manifest in children as young as 6 years old, and the physical and verbal tics that accompany the nervous system malfunctioning are difficult to control. However, a recent study found that medicinal marijuana helped Tourette patients control their verbal and motor tics. Researchers are calling for more studies to get an even better idea as to how effective cannabis is in treating Tourette syndrome.

The practice of smoking weed to help your eyesight dates back to the 1970s. However, it is more of an aid for dealing with glaucoma and not an overall treatment option. Marijuana has been proven to relieve the high pressure put on the eye in glaucoma patients. However, the relief only lasts for a few hours, instead of giving the 24-hour relief that glaucoma patients need. It’s important to talk to your doctor before using medicinal marijuana as a glaucoma aid.
Perhaps the most controversial subject surrounding medicinal cannabis is how it impacts individuals with anxiety and depression. Marijuana can have a positive affect on stabilizing mood and relieve anxiety symptoms, research has found. But as Healthline points out, more studies are being done.
We’ve already discussed that smoking grass can help relieve chronic pain. In recent years, scientists have gone so far as to say marijuana can also be beneficial in helping soothe the symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis. There are even topical creams spiked with weed that you can rub on your joints to help relieve arthritic pain!
Surely you have heard “marijuana” and “cancer” used in the same sentence before. As the American Cancer Society summarizes, smoking the green stuff helps chemotherapy patients feel less nauseous and need less pain medication. It has also been more recently revealed that cannabis has the power to stop the growth of some cancer cells. Research is still on-going, but health benefits continue to be uncovered.
One of the main reasons I personally medicate with cannabis is to combat insomnia. I’m a card carrying member of the cannabis insomniacs club. Nothing else seems to help quiet my mind and ease me into sleep. Other insomniacs will understand how hard it can be to fall asleep. We can’t just let our heads hit the pillow, count sheep up to 23 and be snoring for 8 hours. There will be 1,000 thoughts rushing through our heads. The carnival kicks into high gear for us in those late hours. Cannabis is a great tool for insomniacs to quiet these crazy mechanizations of the mind.
Cannabis Insomniacs – Goodbye, Sleepless Nights
While I personally use cannabis to medicate for a variety of reasons, I’d say insomnia might just be the biggest reason. I’ve had trouble falling asleep my entire life – my creativity thrives in the hours from midnight until dusk. While this isn’t necessarily a bad thing, it can be detrimental to maintaining healthy sleep patterns. Exercise works in fatiguing the body, and helps the sleep process. But it doesn’t quiet the mind. And that’s what cannabis does for cannabis insomniacs – helps them settle into sleep. As opposed to lying awake for 3 hours, glancing at the clock in 42 minute increments of time. But enough about my personal experience, let’s dive into how cannabis and insomnia interact on a more general basis.
Indica dominant strains prove far more useful for cannabis insomniacs. Sativa leaves one feeling invigorated, enthusiastic, and energized. Indica does just the opposite – it helps users to feel relaxed and stress free. As mentioned in the CBN informational, aged cannabis tends to become a more effective sleep aid as it ages! CBN is five times as sedating as THC. So while some people like to smoke only the freshest of buds, if you’re an insomniac and are seeking relief, you might want to start a secondary jar. Throw a nug or two every time you restock, and let them age. The more they age, the more likely you’ll get a deep sleep. I’m talking puppy sleep.
Cannabis is also documented to work positively with other sleep aids. Melatonin, Valerian Root, and 5-HTP, can be used in tandem with cannabis as an “anti-insomnia stack.” For some, this could be the silver bullet, as restful sleep can be very hard to achieve. Another thing worth noting – smoking or vaporizing cannabis has a quicker effect. An edible will take longer to kick in, but for those who have trouble staying asleep, the long term effects of edibles might help them achieve less restless sleeps.
There are a few drawbacks to be weary of. If you’re an avid dreamer, you’ll likely notice cannabis severely impairs dream recall. So if you’re writing a dream journal or indulging in lucid dreaming – beware. Others cannabis insomniacs may experience a “hangover” the next day. Usually this is due to smoking too much, or pesticide laced buds. Always aim for quality over quantity. If you find yourself with a “cannabis hangover” (which is nothing compared to alcohol hangovers), eat some vitamins and rehydrate. The foggy head will clear up quick with some coffee, too.
Cannabis oil is widely beneficial and is considered as one of the most effective oils for alleviation of certain conditions and illnesses.
Researchers believe there are at least two active chemicals in cannabis that have medicinal applications: cannabidiol and tetrahydrocannabinol. Cannabidiol, also known as CBD, impacts the brain without a high, and tetrahydrocannabinol, also known as THC, has pain relieving properties.
1. Stress & Anxiety
In a busy modern society, stress has risen to prominence as one of our most substantial health risks. Our ancestors experienced stress in short bursts, in times of excitement or danger, such as while pursuing prey or running from predators. Conversely, we have imposed upon ourselves an almost ever-present form of stress through a combination of many different lifestyle and dietary factors. Conventional prescription medications for chronic stress and anxiety are dangerous, while most natural alternatives are often quite ineffective. Enter, cannabis oil.
A study published in 2013 found that treatment with cannabinoids in the wake of some form of traumatic or stressful experience might help to control a subject’s emotional responses. Researchers discovered that cannabinoids could be effective in minimizing stress receptors in the hippocampus – the part of the brain responsible for these emotional responses.
A more recent review which was published in 2015 observed that cannabis therapies were also effective in reducing stress and restlessness in military veterans who suffered from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder.
These studies provide promising grounds for the use of cannabis oil in treating stress and anxiety.
For thousands of years, cannabis has been used to treat respiratory ailments in traditional Chinese and Indian cultures. Thanks to its natural anti-inflammatory properties and analgesic effects – including an ability to dilate the bronchial tubes, allowing a better flow of oxygen – cannabis oil might be an effective natural solution for the millions of people worldwide who currently suffer from asthma.
In the 1970s there were several studies carried out which investigated the bronchodilatory impacts of cannabis on people suffering from asthma. Many of the subjects involved showed very positive reactions to the treatment.
3. Heart Health
Cannabis oil contains antioxidant properties that could provide beneficial treatment for heart-related ailments.
Animal studies have demonstrated that treatment with cannabis oil may prevent some cardiovascular diseases, including atherosclerosis, heart attacks, and strokes. A 2014 British research team found that the results of these animal studies were also applicable to human heart conditions. They demonstrated that cannabinoids could cause the blood vessels to relax and dilate which allowed for improved circulation and reduced blood pressure.
4. Pain Relief
One of the most significant traditional uses of the cannabis plant was to ease pain, allowing a more comfortable state for healing. This application extends back thousands of years; however, there is now new evidence that cannabis products can be effective in alleviating discomfort by hindering neural transmissions in the body’s pain pathways. They also have the potential to ease most forms of inflammation, which is why many cancer patients choose to take them while undergoing chemotherapy.
A Canadian study which was published in 2010 demonstrated that cannabis could be used to treat those who were suffering from chronic pain. The study involved 23 adult subjects who were experiencing neuropathic pain as a result of surgery or trauma. Over the 2-week duration, subjects were selected at random and treated with cannabis in 4 different levels of potency. The results demonstrated that when taken 3 times each day, cannabis was able to significantly decrease the severity of pain, as well as improve sleeping patterns.
5. Skin Protection
Cannabis oil can be applied topically to promote healthy skin appearance. When used in this way, the oil can help stimulate the shedding of older skin cells and encourage the growth of new ones to replace them. It can also assist in the production of lipids, which help to combat chronic skin conditions including acne and psoriasis. Additionally, thanks to its ability to reduce stress, cannabis oil can help prevent some types of skin diseases that break out during times of anxiety such as eczema or rosacea.
There is some evidence beginning to emerge from small-scale studies and anecdotal reports that cannabis oil might be effective in preventing seizures and could potentially become a treatment for epilepsy in the future.
Unfortunately, there is not enough evidence at this stage to warrant commercial use for these ailments and reviews of studies published so far have been unable to reach a decisive conclusion.
Cancer is perhaps the most controversial disease in recorded history, with many alternative practitioners claiming that natural cures already exist. Understandably, there is a substantial amount of excitement surrounding the potential for cannabis oil to be used in cancer treatment.
Scientists have discovered that some cannabinoids have a variety of positive effects under laboratory conditions, including:

Preventing new blood vessels from becoming tumors
Reducing the risk of cancer cells spreading through the body and penetrating healthy neighboring tissue.
Although it is not yet commercially recognized as a cure, there is strong evidence to suggest that cannabis products can have very positive effects on the healing process for those suffering from cancer.
Dawn Darington is a pioneer in the medical cannabis community. A couple of months ago, as I was shuffling through education panels during CannaCon in Seattle, I heard a panelist make a claim that instantly grabbed my attention among all the loud, distracting vendors. “I can cure skin cancer with cannabis in 30 days.” This intrigued me so much that I began a journey to track the panelist down. Luckily, a short chase led me to the cannabis freedom fighter, also known as Dawn Darington. Dawn has always been a passionate voice and friendly face in Seattle’s tight-knit cannabis community, and I actually interviewed her for an in-depth patient profile a couple of years ago for my book, As The Grass Grows. When I reached out to see if she would be willing to share her regimen for healing skin cancer with Marijuana.com, she was enthusiastic to share this information and educate people in need all over the world. I sat down and talked with Dawn after a Seattle Cannabis Alliance meeting, and she walked me through How to Cure Skin Cancer in 30 daysor less…
Skin cancer effects over 3.5 million people in the U.S. alone. It’s a stealthy cancer that may not have noticeable symptoms until it has developed into a more serious problem. If you are diagnosed with skin cancer, current western treatment gives you an expensive choice between surgery or radiation. What kind of decision is that? With medical marijuana legal in almost half of the United States, we now have more access than ever to treat skin cancer in a completely natural and healthy way, as hemp oil cures skin cancer.
First, Dawn wanted to make it clear that she’s not a doctor. This regimen is based only on what she has personally experienced by treating medical marijuana patients through her safe access point, Choice Wellness. She also wanted to make it clear for this article that she can’t help you get cannabis or cannabis oil, but “if you can get your hands on it, I will teach out what you need to do for your situation.”
There are two types of cannabis oilhemp seed oil for skin cancer, best cbd for skin cancer) you can use to treat skin cancer, and both can be made at home. Rick Simpson Oil (RSO) is a hot-search topic and if you scroll through Youtube, you’ll see several claims that it has cured some severe cases of skin cancer. However, RSO is traditionally made with isopropyl alcohol, or Naptha, which is a combustible petroleum product found in lighters and napalm. In other words, it’s not the cleanest alcohol solvent on the market, and when we’re trying to eradicate cancer, we want the purest medicine possible. This is where full-extract cannabis oil (FECO) steps in. FECO follows the same steps as RSO, but rather than using iso or naptha, it is made with 190 proof grain alcohol. You can make your own FECO at home by soaking cannabis (preferably high-THC buds) in 190 proof grain alcohol for 30+ days. Some states prohibit the sale of 190 proof alcohol, so in this case you are limited to making RSO. On the opposite end of the spectrum, some states have medical marijuana safe access points where you can purchase cannabis oil and not have to worry about making it yourself.
Western treatment for cancer, such as chemo and radiation, can cause some serious damage that needs to be repaired before cannabis treatment can begin. If you have been subjected to radiation or chemotherapy, Dawn recommends a high-CBD cannabis oil suppository to eradicate all the radiation in your body. This may not be the most pleasant experience, but it’s a necessary step if you have been subjected to radiation, or else the cancer will just keep stubbornly coming back.
Here is Dawn’s basic procedure for curing skin cancer with cannabis oil. Please notice that it doesn’t include dosages because each person’s situation is unique. Since this is a topical application, dosage doesn’t need to be as precise as it does when it is taken orally. Some people feel relaxed after applying the cannabis oil on their skin, but you will not get ‘high’ from this regimen.
Place a drop of Calendula oil on a small piece of gauze. (The Calendula oil helps push the cannabis oil into your skin)
Apply the high-THC cannabis oil directly on your affected skin so that you cover the cancer spot completely with the oil.
Cover the cannabis oil with the calendula-infused gauze and slap the band-aid on top.
Change out and replace every 1-3 days.
In 3-4 weeks, Dawn claims your skin cancer will have disappeared!
Dawn has seen this procedure heal countless skin cancer patients without exposure to destructive procedures such as radiation. Through her patient trials she has found some treatments that don’t work, which I want to go through, briefly. Dawn has experienced that CO2 oil, a more expensive option to RSO or FECO, does not have the same healing effects as alcohol-based extracts. She wasn’t sure why she wasn’t getting the same results until she looked into the chemistry behind CO2 oil production and found that the process actually changes the molecular structure of the THC cells. “Essentially, it’s not pulling the same package off of the plant,” Dawn says. She also warns of the hemp-based CBD products you can find online. Dawn, like many medical marijuana experts, believe wholeheartedly in the entourage effect – meaning the medicinal qualities of marijuana are most powerful when working all together. In other words, CBD alone is not as effective as CBD working together with THC.
Cannabis is a powerful medicine and this is just one example of it’s many healing properties. It’s easy to feel trapped in a corner with the treatment options that western medicine offers but from Dawn’s experience with a little weed, some grain alcohol and a bit of patience, you can eradicate skin cancer with a plant in a safe, natural way.
